CERTAIN joins EU Road Safety Cluster

CERTAIN has joined the EU Road Safety Cluster, strengthening European collaboration on data-driven road safety and user-centric mobility.

The EU Road Safety Cluster brings together EU-funded projects working to accelerate progress towards a safe, inclusive, sustainable and efficient mobility system. By aligning research efforts and exchanging knowledge, the Cluster addresses structural barriers that continue to limit road safety performance across Europe.

A recent milestone of the Cluster is the publication of the white paper ‘Advancing Road Safety Through Data’. The paper consolidates insights from V4SAFETY, AI4CCAM, EVENTS, SOTERIA, CAMBER, FRODDO, PHOEBE, iDriving, ProtAct-Us, SAFETeen and EvoRoads. It highlights persistent challenges in road safety data - including fragmentation, under-reporting and limited interoperability - and presents innovative approaches such as AI-based analytics, digital twins and federated data spaces. The paper concludes with concrete policy recommendations to support proactive, evidence-based road safety and the EU’s Vision Zero objectives.

Although CERTAIN was not involved in the development of this joint paper, the project joins the Cluster at a crucial moment. The priorities identified in the paper closely align with CERTAIN’s mission to strengthen the foundations for safer transport systems through improved data use, integration and insight generation.

By becoming part of the EU Road Safety Cluster, CERTAIN contributes to a coordinated European effort to:

  • Enhance data quality, accessibility and interoperability;
  • Support systemic, forward-looking safety management;
  • Increase the policy impact of Horizon Europe research;
  • Accelerate progress towards Vision Zero.

The composition of the Cluster evolves over time, reflecting the lifecycle of participating projects. Through this dynamic collaboration, knowledge is sustained, strengthened and translated into practical guidance for policymakers and stakeholders.

With its membership, CERTAIN reinforces the collective ambition: moving from fragmented data to integrated intelligence - and from reactive measures to preventive, system-level road safety.
